Full Coverage Dental Insurance, looking for cosmetic dental coverages.

Wednesday, Jul. 14th 2010 9:38 AM

I have really stained dark teeth.  Four years ago I was a heavy smoker.  Now even though I quit smoking  since then my teeth never got  better.  Do to my smoking my teeth are really nasty looking and even though I am much healthier and I changed for the better you could not tell that by my teeth.

I have been advise to see an cosmetic dentist.  My general dentist told me that only a cosmetic dentist could fix up my teeth and get rid of the signs of my past smoking.  I am looking into it but cosmetic dentistry is very costly and I have not found any dental insurance plan that covers cosmetic services.  What can I get that will help me with the cost?

I know how you feel. I too was a smoker for many years and it did a number on my teeth. I do not even know what else it may have done to me but right now I do get a clean bill of health.

Any way I just use teeth whiten strips. They will work if you use them as directed. Since you stop smoking you will not re stain them. I would try doing that before spending out big buck for cosmetic services.

My wife use to have stained up teeth too. Not to smoking but she drink a lot of coffee and tea. We paid for her to have Zoom whitening treatment.

It was like she had new teeth. They really looked nice. Now I am not sure about smoking stains but I would think that it should help you out with whitening up your smile.

Does your dentist not do whiten treatment? I do not see why you need to go to a cosmetic dentist for that? Any way if you can not find dental insurance to help you with whitening your teeth. Look for a dental discount plans.

The saving you will get would be well worth the cost of buying the plan. Good luck to you.

First congrats on not smoking any more. As far as most dental insurance plans goes they will normally not cover out on whiten treatment or cosmetic services.

Depending on how bad your teeth really are you may only need whitening treatment. If your stains are in you teeth to the point were whiten will not help then the dentist may suggest veneers.

If you are going to have veneers done then it is important that you get it done by a specialist. Only a cosmetic dentist have the real skill needed to make sure they do not look fake. I have seen bad veneer jobs and they do not look good. So make sure you find a dentist that know what they are doing.
